Anticipated Substitute/Long-Term Substitute Special Education Teacher 9:1:3 Classroom
Start Date: Approximately March 2, 2026
The educator will be responsible for teaching groups of students with a range of disabilities. The selected candidate will develop, monitor and adjust instruction to promote growth of our students which includes their intellectual, emotional, social and physical well-being. Additionally, the successful candidate must demonstrate unquestionable integrity, understand the value of culturally responsive instructional practices and have a firm belief in the potential of all students.
General Requirements:
Our ideal candidate should have:
- NYS Permanent or Professional Special Education or NYS Students with Disabilities Certifcation, Grades 1-6.
- Candidates who posess other teaching certificates, in addition to special education are preferred.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Familiarity and experience providing instruction for students with developmental disabilities in the self-contained setting.
- Effective communication skills to engage students, parents, colleagues and the school community as a whole. Awareness and experience with relative technology mediums would be ideal.
- Creativity and insight into core curriculum.
Preferred Skills of the Ideal Candidates:
Demonstrated skill in teaching students with developmental disabilities in both substantially separate and inclusive settings.
Knowledge of multi-disciplinary instructional techniques, research-based interventions for teaching academics as well as behavior, and strategies for collecting data and monitoring academic/behavioral progress.
Knowledge of/experience with developing and implementing positive behavioral supports, behavior intervention plans (BIPs), and functional behavioral assessments (FBAs).
Familiarity with instruction of alternate curriculum and alternate assessment.
Experience with classroom management, IEP goal development and progress monitoring.
Able to lead classroom staff and collaborate with other members of the special education team.
Fully trained in crisis intervention/response such as Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS).
Salary and Benefits:
According to the School Alliance for Substitutes in Education (SASIE) Contract. Certified sub $123.00 per day, uncertified $102.00 per day, increase after 20 consecutive days.
