CURRENT LOCATION: Colonie Central High School with additional district-wide responsibilities
HOURS: 20-40 hours per week
SALARY: $37.50 per hour

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Community Engagement and School Safety Coordinator (CE&SC) is a multi-faceted role dedicated to maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive environment for students, staff, and the community. Reporting directly to the Assistant Superintendent of Safe Schools, this position bridges the gap between physical security, administrative support, and student mentorship. The CE&SC acts as the district’s primary liaison with local law enforcement and emergency services while serving as a proactive educator and mentor within the school buildings.
The Community Engagement and School Safety Coordinator (CE&SC) serves as a vital link between physical security, administrative support, and student mentorship. Reporting to the Assistant Superintendent of Safe Schools, the coordinator is responsible for maintaining a secure environment by physically intervening in altercations, de-escalating high-tension conflicts, and serving as the district wide coordinator for S.H.E.L.L. protocols. Beyond emergency response, the role focuses on proactive prevention through student mentorship, guest speaking in classrooms, and collaborating with the High School Pupil Study Team to support students in behavioral or mental health crises. Additionally, the coordinator acts as the primary liaison to Colonie Police and Dispatch, managing critical security infrastructure such as swipe cards, CAD maps, and emergency notification systems to ensure a coordinated response across all district facilities and large-scale athletic events.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain knowledge of state, local, and school system guidelines on safety and attendance.

Do an annual risk/safety assessment for all district buildings and prepare findings for the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources & Safe Schools

Monitor occurrences of extreme absenteeism, unexcused absences, and extreme tardiness through participation in the Pupil Study Team.

Member of the Safe Schools Committee.

Report issues of concern to building administration, child services, or law enforcement.
