Anticipated 12 Month Probationary Administrator Opening - (1) 1.0 Director of Student Support Services/PPS for 2026-2027

Locations: To be determined

Start Date: September 1, 2026

Seeking an Administrator to join in a leadership role which supports the student support services programs for the 2026-2027 school year.

The Director of Student Support Services/PPS will provide leadership and direction in all aspects of Special Education, as well as supervise and evaluate the instructional and non-instructional support staff. 

Job Qualifications

General Requirements/Responsibilities:

Valid New York State certification as School District Leader (SDL), School District Administrator (SDA) and/or School Administrator and Supervisor (SAS).

At least five years administrative experience in a related area (e.g. Special and/or General Education, Psychology, Social Work), Science Education and/or administrative leadership.

Excellent communication skills.

Ability to work with all constituents.

Extensive knowledge of state and federal laws related to the Committee on Special Education (CSE) and the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE).

Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Curriculum and Instruction/Special Programs:

Provide leadership in the development and maintenance of Special Education programs and related services to students with disabilities aged 3-22 residing in the South Colonie Central School District.

Develop systems and written procedures, where applicable, within the Special Education Department K-12 to be shared with all stakeholders to ensure continuity and consistency.

Oversee and monitor the activities and functions of the Committee on Special Education and Pre-School Special Education to assure compliance with administration of appropriate state and federal laws, regulations, policies and procedures.  Recommend policies, programs, and procedures essential to the needs of students with disabilities and those affecting the functioning of the Special Education Department.

Understand and monitor the District's continuum of Special Education services.

Analyze student achievement data with program leaders for the purposes of program effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement.      

Provide leadership in establishing new Special Education programs and developing improved understanding of existing programs.  Collaboratively work with other District and building administrators.

Oversee the scheduling of all District CSE/CPSE meetings for the Special Education office.

Conduct initial, annual, and re-evaluation meetings of the CSE.

Encourage integration of Special Education and general education.

Collaborate with principals on elementary and secondary transition planning requirements for students with disabilities.

Complete and verify Special Education student data reporting to NYSED and for District-Wide reporting to the Board of Education.

Prepare or supervise the development of reports, records, lists, and all other information appropriate for school/District operations.

Personnel and Staff Development:

Collaboratively designs, implements and monitors a District Plan for Special Education and their identified supports.

Serve as liaison between District and federal/state/local agencies.

Coordinate opportunities for staff development to align with the District Professional Development Plan (i.e. areas such as TCIS, IEP Direct, co-teaching and MTSS as needed).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Assist in recruiting, selecting, training, assigning and evaluating Special Education teachers and related support staff members. 

Oversee and evaluate the CPSE/CSE Special Education Coordinator and CSE subcommittees, as needed.

Assign and monitor the completion of mandated evaluations to be completed by each school psychologist.

Provide leadership, in collaboration with building administrators, in the recruitment, selection and supervision of Special Education and related service staff (School Psychologists, Speech, OT, PT and Social Workers) and yearly assignments.

Establish written procedures for referrals, evaluation and placement of students with disabilities.

Develop and maintain confidential records of children receiving Special Education services.

Maintain attendance, suspension, and enrollment figures for students with disabilities to inform decision making within the District.

Establish regular communication with District administrators, building administrators, county agencies, CSE subcommittee chairpersons, Special Education teachers, related service providers, and outside agencies.

Business and Budget:

Coordinator with the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent for Management Services and Strategic Planning to develop a budget.

Work collaboratively to support the Medicaid billing process, the Special Education budget, and grants. 

Monitor budgetary expenditures during the school year.  Make recommendations for programs and services to meet the needs of all students.

Coordinate with the Business Office the monitoring os student placements and billing for services.

Monitor reimbursement for high cost and private placements.  Oversee STAC submissions and funding.

Collaborate with the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent for Management Services and Strategic Planning to approve all supplies, materials and text used by Special Education staff.

School and Community Relations:

Work cooperatively with South Colonie Special Education PTA (SEPTA).

Facilitate parent meetings at transition points: Kindergarten, Middle School and High School.

Provide annual training for CSE/CPSE members.

Ensure the District Special Education website aligns with current information, training, resources, etc.

Professional Development:

Assume responsibility for his/her own professional growth and develop participation in affairs of professional organizations through attendance at meetings, enrollment in advanced courses, etc.

Maintain affiliations in professional organizations, state and local BOCES organizations.

Performs all related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

 

Salary and Benefits:

According to the South Colonie Administrators' Contract - minimum base salary of $140,000.00 depending on experience and transcripts.  Competitive benefits.
