POSITION TITLE: Provisional School Bus Garage Dispatcher (12 months)

REPORTING TO: Director of Transportation

HOURS: 8.0 hours per day (9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday – Friday)

CURRENT LOCATION:  Bus Garage

START DATE: ASAP

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Starting salary range of $50,000.00 - $57,000.00 per Support Staff Supervisors' Contract. Competitive benefits.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:  This is moderately difficult work involving responsibility for the daily operational aspects of the school district’s bus fleet.  Incumbent participates in the scheduling of buses, bus route planning and the maintenance of trip records. Incumbent may drive a bus as necessary.  This position has no responsibilities in the area of bus repair and maintenance. The work is performed under general supervision of the school district Transportation Supervisor, or his designee, in accordance with established policies and procedures.  Incumbent assists the Transportation Supervisor in the direction of Bus Drivers.  Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

• Receives calls and messages pertaining to the operation of the school bus fleet by 2-way radio and telephone, logs and forwards calls as appropriate;

• Dispatches bus fleet and drivers/personnel by 2-way radio or telephone, and logs calls as appropriate;

• Uses 2-way radio and/or personal computer tracking system to maintain contact with, and track the location of, school bus fleet and drivers/personnel;

• Receives complaints pertaining to school by fleet operations and takes appropriate action or forwards the complaint to the Transportation Supervisor, or his designee;

• Assists in the preparation of bus route scheduling and planning for daily school activities and special events/field trip activities;

• Maintains trip records and reports, as necessary;

• Maintains files and records as necessary for school bus driver training programs;

• Generates a variety of records and reports for district administration, Department of Motor Vehicles, and NYS State
  Education Department.

• May operate a school bus on an assigned route as needed

• Other assigned tasks as deemed appropriate by the Director of Transportation 

POSITION TITLE: Substitute School Bus Driver

REPORTING TO: Director of Transportation

SALARY: $23.00 per hour (2024-2025 rate)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Drives a school bus on an assigned route and may perform minor maintenance tasks in connection with such operation; does related work as required.

AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC

POSITION TITLE: Automotive Mechanic

REPORTING TO: Transportation Director

HOURS: 8.0 hours per day (12 month position)    

CURRENT LOCATION:  Transportation Department, 2 Winston Place, Albany, NY 12205

START DATE:   ASAP 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Makes skilled repairs and adjustments to automotive equipment and machinery; does related work as required.

This is skilled work involving responsibility for the complete overhaul and repair of a variety of automotive equipment.  The work requires a thorough knowledge of the trade. 

SALARY & BENEFITS:  Schedule M per CSEA Contract ($49,560.00 starting salary (rate effective 7/1/2024)).
